# How to set up Switchy URL Shortener


# To set up a **Switchy** URL Shortener on Publer:

* Go to **Social Accounts** and **select** an account
* Select **URL Settings** and click on **Switchy**:

### Add the **API** key:

1. Click [here](https://switchy.io/7839/list).
2. Go to **Settings**.
3. Select **API key**.
4. Click **Generate**.

5. Name the **API key** and click **Confirm**.
6. Copy the **value** and paste it on Publer's dashboard.

* Once **Switchy** is connected to Publer, choose whether you want to:

1. Shorten any link. -- Publer will shorten all the links shared in the caption or comment of the post.
2. Shorten only link posts. -- Publer will only shorten the main link in the post.

|| Note: When you choose to **shorten only link posts** Publer will only shorten the main link in the post. For example, if you choose this option, create a video post, and add a link to the caption, that link won't be shortened. In this case, the link will be shortened only when the post is a link post (with a thumbnail).

* You can always disconnect Switchy by clicking on **Disconnect**. For more information go [here](https://help.publer.io/en/article/how-to-disconnect-url-shorteners-26l5f0/).

|| Keep in mind, the link will only be shortened after the post is scheduled/published, so you cannot see the changes when you preview the post.
