“The Ridgewood Theatre, located at 55-27 Myrtle Avenue in Ridgewood, Queens, was recognized as the oldest continuously operating first-run movie theatre in the United States when it closed in March 2008. Opened in 1916 and designed by famed architect Thomas Lamb, in the Beaux-Arts style, it featured a limestone and terra cotta facade. It was a premier, long-running venue (opening in December 1916) that survived the transition from silent films to “talkies” and held a 91-year record for continuous operation. After closing, the building was landmarked in 2010 and subsequently renovated, opening in 2016 as a mixed-use building containing luxury apartments and a gym.” #ThrowbackThursday (📸: Michael Lozada)
