I have watched people win their divorce and lose their decade. The settlement went their way. The story went their way. Everyone agreed they were the wronged party. And they were still miserable five years later — because they spent those five years looking backwards. Meanwhile the person who “lost” — who got less, who moved on quietly, who stopped keeping score — was building something.
