How to mention accounts across multiple social networks

DesktopStart

Mentions work differently across social networks, since each platform has its own rules and infrastructure for tagging accounts. Because of this, you cannot apply the same mention to multiple social networks at once.

Instead, you need to customize the post for each social network and add the correct mention for that platform. You can also use Shortcodes to make this process faster when you frequently mention the same accounts.

To learn more about mentioning accounts on each supported social network, check out how to tag/mention people or social accounts.

To mention accounts across multiple social networks:

  • Go to Create in Publer.
  • Select the social accounts you want to post to.
  • Start creating your post.

If you try to add a mention while multiple social networks are selected, Publer will notify you that mentions are channel specific.

  • Click on the Customize icon to customize the post for each social network.

Mentions are channel specific, so you need to customize the post before adding the correct mention for each social network.

  • Select each social network individually.
  • Type @ followed by the name or username of the account you want to mention.

  • Select the correct account from the suggestions when available.
  • Repeat the same process for the other social networks.

For example, if you want to mention the same brand on Facebook, LinkedIn, Instagram, and Threads, you need to add the corresponding account mention separately for each network.

Once published, each post will display the correct mention for that specific social network.

Use Shortcodes to mention accounts:

If you regularly mention the same brand, partner, or account across different social networks, you can use Shortcodes to make the process faster.

Instead of searching for and adding each account mention manually every time, you can create one Shortcode and save the corresponding mention for each social network under it.

For example, you could create a Shortcode called:

{{kibo}}

  • Then, add the corresponding Kibo mention for each social network to that Shortcode.

For example:

  • Facebook: @Kibo
  • LinkedIn: @Kibo AI
  • Instagram: @kibo_ai

When creating a post:

  • Customize the post for the social network.
  • Type {{ in the composer.
  • Select the Shortcode you created.

  • Publer will insert the saved mention for the corresponding social network.

  • You can also check the mentions in the Live Preview before publishing.

This is especially useful when the same brand uses different usernames or account names across social networks.

To learn more, check out how to create and use Shortcodes.

Keep in mind:

  • Mentions are currently supported for Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, Instagram, Threads, Bluesky, and Mastodon.
  • When posting to multiple networks, customize each post before adding the correct mention.
  • Mention availability may vary depending on each social network's API limitations.
  • You can use Shortcodes to quickly reuse mentions for accounts you tag often.
