How to tag/mention people or social accounts

This feature is available for Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, Instagram, Threads, Bluesky, and Mastodon.

For Facebook, you can only mention Pages, not Personal Profiles.

For Twitter, Instagram, Threads, Bluesky, and Mastodon, you can mention accounts belonging to people or organizations. LinkedIn Personal Profile mentions have additional restrictions, explained below.

Facebook

Due to API limitations, you can only mention other Facebook Pages, not Personal Profiles.

Select at least one Facebook account.
Type @ followed by the name of the Facebook Page you want to mention, rather than its username.

Tagging Facebook Pages

You can also mention a Facebook Page you manage by entering its Page ID, which you can find under Page Transparency on Facebook.

Select the correct Page from the suggestions returned by Facebook. This step is required to apply the mention.

Twitter

Select a Twitter account.
Type @ followed by the name or username of the account you want to mention.

Tagging Twitter accounts

Select the correct account from the suggestions returned by Twitter. This step is required to apply the mention.

You can mention your LinkedIn connections, followers of your company Pages, and other company Pages. For company Pages, you can search using their name or vanity name.

When searching for a LinkedIn account to mention, avoid placing a comma immediately after its name. For example, typing @Publer, ends the search and prevents suggestions from appearing.

Mentioning LinkedIn Company Pages

Select at least one LinkedIn account.
Type @ followed by the name of the LinkedIn Company Page you want to mention.

You can also search for followers of your company Page by following these steps.

Select the correct company Page from the dropdown suggestions.
If you cannot find the Page by name, try its vanity name. This is the unique name in the Page’s LinkedIn URL.

For example, in https://www.linkedin.com/company/kalemicode/, the vanity name is kalemicode. Type @kalemicode to search for the Page.

Always select the correct suggestion from the dropdown to apply the mention.

Mentioning LinkedIn Personal Profiles

You can mention LinkedIn connections and other Personal Profiles with certain restrictions.

Due to API limitations, you can only mention your 1st-degree connections, LinkedIn Personal Profiles connected to your Publer workspace(s), or accounts that follow your LinkedIn Page(s). If a profile’s name has changed but the new name has not been synced in Publer, the mention will not work.

Suggestions may take a few moments to appear while Publer gathers information about connections, Pages, and Page followers.

If a 1st-degree connection has disabled mentions or has chosen not to share their information with third parties outside LinkedIn, they will not appear in the suggestions.

Select at least one LinkedIn account.
Type @ followed by the name of the profile or connection you want to mention.

Select the correct profile from the dropdown suggestions to apply the mention.

Instagram

Due to API limitations, Publer can only suggest Instagram accounts that you use or have used in Publer. If an account does not appear, you can still enter its full, correct Instagram handle manually.

Select at least one Instagram account.
Type @ followed by the name or username of the account you want to mention.
If the account appears in the suggestions, select it.
Otherwise, enter its complete Instagram handle, such as @instagram.

Publer cannot autocomplete or check the spelling of Personal account usernames through Instagram’s API. Double-check the username before saving.

Tagging Instagram accounts

Whether you select a suggestion or enter the correct handle manually, the mention will be applied when the post is published.

Threads

Due to API limitations, Publer can only suggest Threads accounts that you use or have used in Publer. If an account does not appear, you can still enter its full, correct Threads handle manually.

Select the Threads account you want to publish to.
Type @ followed by the name or username of the account you want to mention.
If the account appears in the suggestions, select it, such as @publer.
Otherwise, enter its complete Threads handle manually.

Tagging Threads accounts

Whether you select a suggestion or enter the correct handle manually, the mention will be applied when the post is published.

Bluesky

Select the Bluesky account you want to publish to.
Type @ followed by the name or username of the account you want to mention.

Select the correct account from the suggestions. This step is required to apply the mention.

Mastodon

Mentioning a Mastodon account on the same server

Select a Mastodon account.
Type @ followed by the name or username of the account you want to mention.

Tagging Mastodon accounts

Select the correct account from the suggestions. This step is required to apply the mention.

Mentioning a Mastodon account on a different server

Select a Mastodon account.
Type @ followed by the name or username of the account you want to mention. You do not need to include the server when searching.

Tagging Mastodon accounts

Publer will display matching accounts from the relevant servers.
Select the correct account from the suggestions to apply the mention.

You can also enter the full, correct handle manually, such as @[email protected]. For accounts on another server, the format is @username@server. The server portion does not count toward the character limit.

You can mention the same person or brand across multiple social networks by customizing the post for each network and adding their corresponding account.

Mentions are specific to each social network. An account’s username may differ between networks, so each mention needs to be added separately.

If you try to add a mention while several social networks are selected, you will see the message: “Mentions are channel specific, so click to customize the post first.”
Click on the customize icon in the bottom-left corner of the composer.

In each network’s version of the post, type @ followed by the corresponding account’s name or username.
Select the correct account from the suggestions where required. For networks that support manually entered handles, make sure the full username is correct.
