How to cross-share Threads posts to Instagram Stories

DesktopStart

Publer lets you automatically cross-share your Threads posts to the Story of the Instagram account linked to your Threads account.

This helps you give your Threads content more visibility without having to manually create a separate Instagram Story each time.

To cross-share a Threads post to an Instagram Story:

  • Go to Create in Publer.
  • Select the Threads account you want to post from.
  • Create your Threads post as usual.
  • Click the AutoShare icon below the post.

To learn more about AutoSharing, check out how to use AutoSharing in Publer.

  • Enable Share to Instagram story.

The post will be shared to the Instagram account linked to your Threads account. The Instagram account does not need to be connected separately to Publer.

  • Choose how you want the Story to appear by selecting a Light background or Dark background.

  • Click Save.
  • Finish creating your post and publish or schedule it as usual.
  • Once the Threads post is published, it will automatically be shared to the Story of the Instagram account linked to that Threads account.

The Instagram Story is created from the published Threads post, so the Threads post must be published first.

  • You can check your story on the respective Instagram account.

To set up Instagram Story cross-sharing from Post Presets:

You can also make this the default behavior for new Threads posts by using Post Presets.

  • Go to the Threads account settings in Publer.
  • Open Post Presets.
  • Find Default auto-share and click Add auto-share.

  • Enable Share to Instagram story.

  • Choose a Light background or Dark background.
  • Click Save.

Once enabled, new posts created for that Threads account will automatically use these AutoShare settings by default.

Post Presets apply to new posts created in Publer. You can still change the AutoShare settings for an individual post from the composer.

Keep in mind:

  • The Instagram account does not need to be connected separately to Publer.
  • It must be the Instagram account linked to the Threads account you are posting from.
  • The Threads post must be published before it can be shared to the Instagram Story.
  • You can choose between a Light background and Dark background for the Story.
  • You can enable Share to Instagram story for individual posts from the composer or set it as the default from Post Presets.
  • If the original Threads post is deleted before it is shared, there will be no post to cross-share.
  • Threads post limitations still apply. You can check the supported post types and limitations here.
