NASA astronaut Christina Koch is set to make history Wednesday when she becomes the first woman to circle the moon with the Artemis 2 mission. It’s the type of journey she dreamed of going on while growing up in Jacksonville, North Carolina. Koch has deep North Carolina ties, graduating from the North Carolina School of Science and Math and earning degrees at NC State University. She already has broken the world record for longest spaceflight by a woman when she was in orbit for more than 320 days in 2019 and 2020.
