The #Islamabad High Court has issued a landmark judgment, ruling that a divorced #woman is entitled to seek the return of her dowry items from her husband. According to 24 News, Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kayani stated that a woman’s right in property acquired by her husband during the marriage may be recognized, provided her contribution is proven. The court also directed that amendments be made to the Nikahnama (marriage contract), recommending the inclusion of a condition specifying that the husband’s property be shared with the wife. The judgment noted that incorporating such a clause in the #Nikahnama could serve as an alternative mechanism to safeguard women’s property rights in #Pakistan, even in the absence of new legislation.
