Forbes Mausoleum in Falkirk, Scotland, sits in the middle of the woods on what used to be the Forbes family estate. Built in the early 1800’s, it houses the mortal remains of generations of the Forbes family. It is now a place where people party and is run down, covered in graffiti and littered with trash. It’s sad the way humans treat things of beauty and historical value. The Greek epitaph inscription from Lucian reads “Mortals; possessions are mortal, and all things pass us by; if not, at any rate we pass them by.” That quote fits the place perfectly.
