A 38-year-old man from Nagoya, Japan has been arrested after scamming a food delivery service out of nearly $24,000 worth of free meals. According to NDTV, Takuya Higashimoto exploited a loophole in the Demae-can delivery app by repeatedly claiming that his food orders hadn’t arrived. Over two years, he placed 1,095 fraudulent orders — receiving refunds even after meals were delivered. Police say Higashimoto, who has been unemployed for several years, created 124 fake accounts using false names and prepaid phone numbers to avoid being caught. He reportedly ordered expensive items like eel bento, hamburger steaks, and ice cream. On July 30, he made one last attempt, ordering ice cream and chicken steaks worth 16,000 yen ($105), then falsely claimed non-delivery to secure another refund.
