How to schedule Instagram Reels

DesktopStart

With Publer, you can directly schedule and post Reels to all your Creator and Business Instagram accounts. Publer cannot generate Reels, so we recommend creating your Reels beforehand and then uploading them to Publer.

To schedule Instagram Reels:

  • Go to the Create page on Publer.

  • Select Instagram from the list of accounts on the left and choose Reel.

NOTE: Publer automatically detects the video type based on the aspect ratio and the video’s technical requirements (duration and size). For example, a vertical video with a 9:16 aspect ratio will be detected as a Reel.

  • Click on Click or Drag and Drop media to upload your Reel and continue creating the post.
  • You can post automatically or through reminders.
  • Choose whether you want to post the Reel to the Instagram Feed or not.

NOTE: By default, Reels appear in both the Reels tab and the Feed tab. You can choose to share them only in the Reels tab. Only Reels with durations between 5 and 90 seconds and an aspect ratio of 9:16 will appear in the Reels tab. Otherwise, they will be posted to the Feed only.

  • You can choose to publish the Reel as a Trial Reel by toggling on Post as Trial Reel.
  • You can choose to approve the Reel manually on Instagram or allow Instagram to automatically add it to your profile if it performs well.

Trial Reels are first shown to a small group of non-followers. Based on their performance, Instagram decides whether to show them to a wider audience. Learn more about Trial Reels here.

  • You can tag people or tag products on your Reel.
  • You can also edit the Reel’s original audio description or title.

WARNING: Due to Instagram API limitations, the Reel must already include music or audio before uploading it to Publer. You can also publish a Reel without sound. Alternatively, you can use the push-notification method.

TIP: You can schedule multiple Instagram Reels at once using a CSV file. Simply add #Reels in the Message column of the CSV so the post is automatically converted to a Reel instead of a regular video post. Learn more here.

Limitations and Warnings:

  • You can select a custom thumbnail for Instagram Reels through Publer.
  • Reels can be between 3 seconds and 15 minutes long, have a maximum width of 1920 pixels, and a file size of up to 100MB.
  • Supported aspect ratios range from 0.01:1 to 10:1, but 9:16 is recommended to avoid cropping or blank spaces.
  • When you enable Trial Reel, the Reel will not be posted to your feed.

WARNING: Only Reels with durations between 5 and 90 seconds and an aspect ratio of 9:16 will appear in the Reels tab on Instagram. Other Reels will be posted to the Feed only.
