At some point, healing stops being something others can give you, and becomes something you give to yourself. Sometimes it’s natural to cling to pain, to replay things, or point out the people who hurt waiting for them to fix it. But real growth begins when you say, “I deserve healing more than I deserve victim-hood.” The one issue is - healing hurts, and unfortunately, pity feels good in the moment, doesn't it? Healing is about choosing to no longer let old wounds define you. At a certain age, it literally becomes your one job, your complete responsibility - and no one else's, to teach yourself the things you were never taught, and to unlearn all the toxic habits and behaviors that you were taught. Because here's the thing, wallowing in toxicity like rage, resentfulness, bitterness, jealousy, emotional unavailability, inability to apologize and be accountable, unwillingness to be responsible with other people's trust and feelings, reciprocity, poor communication skills, etc., is laziness. And an excuse. It just is. Life is unfair to everyone in tons of different ways. You aren't special and you don't get a medal for being The #1 Top Sufferer of Life ™. No one is going to admire or respect you for throwing a decade long tantrum or pity party, you won't be getting and 'A' in bitterness and jealously. So go ahead, spend more of your life pouting, having tantrums, and endlessly complaining about how unfair and cruel things are, and it's valid that trauma is painful, shitty, and should never, ever happen to any for any of us... but still, the truth ultimately remains unchangeable. It is our duty to heal and grow, and stop hurting other people because of our refusal to do it.
